One Month!

As of 8:47 p.m. today, the boy is one month old. He had his one month well baby visit Tuesday and he's up to an even 8 POUNDS and 21 5/8 inches long - almost a 2 inch growth and almost 2 pounds up from his lowest weight. The breastfeeding circus continues but as is clear by his vitals, he's getting plenty of food now and is growing like a beanstalk. Here are some pictures of him from today. The top one is actually from yesterday (in a swaddler, a gift from Heather, and I think he looks like an Ice Barbarian in it but Jessica argues, incorrectly if you ask me, that babies cannot look like barbarians) but I challenge you to tell me how different he looks after only 24 hours.

Hey Lover (Happy Vee Day)

I finally managed to grab a moment to update all you JDB (the sequel) lovers out there. So here is your sweet Valentine's Day treat, sorry it's not chocolate.

Life with the tiny tyrant continues. The breastfeeding misadventures are ongoing, John seems fine but mommy is a little bit the worse for wear. When the whole situation is resolved (hopefully soon!) I'll do a long post on it complete with photos of all of our fabulous breastfeeding accoutrement. Sufficed to say, the massive money saving benefits of breastfeeding haven't kicked in quite yet.

John is just sweet as can be, except when loudly protesting any of the following disturbances of his peace: diaper change; clothes change; being placed in carseat; being taken out of carseat; gas (apparently a major issue in parenting; who knew?); and my favorite, Daddy taking his pinkie out of John's mouth, which he far prefers to any unsatisfactory store-bought pacifier. Of course, we all know what John really wants to put in his little mouth, but sometimes the milk factory is closed.

We have also found a way all of us to get a good night's sleep. Unfortunately, it involves Quinn and I sleeping in separate beds - this must be how breastfeeding acts as contraception! See, John really likes to sleep in bed with someone, little lover that he is. However, we feel way too freaked out with his tiny body between the two of us. It's fine, though, when he lays next to one of us in the bed with pillows around him. So we alternate one of us sleeping with him and the other one in the other room. John will sleep alone, but only during the daytime. What a little prankster, no?

So that's about all, we're braving the ice storm quite well and Quinn's classes are canceled, which is great although you can imagine how much romance we're having! Oh well, it was romance that got us into this mess in the first place, right?
